Parents As Teachers
PARENTS AS TEACHERS

Judy Brown, Overbrook, is the new Parent Educator (PE) for the Parents As Teachers Program, PAT for short. This program believes that parents are their children’s first and most influential teachers. The early years of a child’s life are critical for optimal development and provide the foundation for success in school and life. PAT is open to parents who have children from birth to age three; parents may even enroll in the prenatal sessions before the birth of their child. There is no cost to the parents; USD 434 provides this service for the school communities.
The program consists of approximately seven (7) visits annually at your home where Judy will discuss child development and parenting practices with you, the parents. She will bring parent-child activities to encourage parent observation of the child’s behavior as well as parent-child interaction. A file and chart will be kept to record/track the child’s milestones, progress and activities. Screenings will be given for developmental progress in the following areas: cognitive, language, social-emotional, and motor skills. Vision, hearing, and health screenings will also be done by the PE.

She is excited to meet our patrons and share information about PAT. Please stop and visit with her about the “Born to Learn” curriculum. She will be happy to explain the program to you and enroll your infant/child, ages 0 to 3 years of age.

If you know of anyone who is expecting a child or has a 0 to 3 year old, they may call Judy at 785-665-7265 (Cell) 785-250-5077 for information. She may be e-mailed at judjonbrown@aol.com. Please put PAT Inquiry in the “subject box”.
